BELLINGHAM — A Bellingham man has reached the top of Mount Everest, achieving his quest to climb the highest peaks on seven continents.
The Bellingham Herald reported that Dave Mauro, 50, was part of a team of 21 people who reached the summit of Everest on Monday in Nepal, according to the International Mountain Guides.
Mauro told the paper before his climb that this achievement makes him one of 65 Americans to achieve the seven summits quest.
He also hoped to raise $29,029 for the Bellingham Boys &Girls Club as part of his latest expedition — one dollar for each foot of the mountain.
His fundraising campaign had raised more than $20,000, as of Tuesday morning.
