Local music roundup

Lots of stuff happening in the local music landscape right now. Most of them are awesome and one of them is a bit of a bummer. I’ll leave the bummer for last. Lets get to it!

Last Friday night The Moondoggies, Motopony, Hot Bodies In Motion and River Giant all played the Historic Everett Theater. Local videographer Casey Sjogren was there shooting everything and edited together this gorgeous video of Motopony set to their song “King of Diamonds.”

With Sasquatch being this weekend I made my annual trip down to the KIRO radio studios in Seattle to record and episode of The Mixtape podcast with Sean Detore. We talk Sasquatch and play some music from artists we are excited to see but the 2nd half of the show is and interview with Seattle rappers Brothers From Another who will be performing at Sasquatch this Friday at 5:40pm. They also debut their new song ‘Drunk Talk’ from their upcoming EP Tacos On Broadway. This show is a little NSFW but you can listen at the link below!

Speaking of Brothers From Another, they were part of a list XXLMAG.COM released today of 15 Seattle rappers you should know. There are many familiar faces on the list like Sol and the gentleman from Fresh Espresso, but they left out Macklemore. I guess they assume everyone who’s ever been online or looked at a TV already knows who he is. Check the rest of the list. Lots of good stuff in there and it’s great to see all the local guys getting some national love.

Seattle’s Rose Windows are very much on the rise right now. They are performing at Sasquatch this Saturday at 1pm and they were recently signed to Subpop records and their debut record will be out this summer. The other day Rose Windows decided to give us an early taste of the new record with their song “Wartime Lovers.”

OK, now for the sort of bummer news. The new summer music festival, JamBase Live that was set to come to the Gorge this July 5-6 has been cancelled with no word as to why. Refunds will be given and there will still be a show featuring bands that were on the lineup but it will be somewhere in Seattle. More details on this soon.
