The Silvertips, of course, are in the market for a head coach. One who happens to be available is Kevin Constantine. And now WHL uberscribe Gregg Drinnan is suggesting that Everett could be in the process of bringing Constantine back into the fold.
I’m not sure how much credence to give to this particular rumor. One of the reasons Mark Ferner was fired was because his style of play was too defensive for Tips general manager Garry Davidson, who wants Everett to play an up-tempo offensive style. Constantine’s style is often held up as the paragon of defensive hockey.
That said, there’s no denying the success the Tips had during Constantine’s four seasons behind the bench. And I know Constantine has applied for WHL coaching jobs in recent years. So who knows? But if it does happen, it would be quite the splash.

Oh, one other note. Everett goaltender Austin Lotz is being summoned by Hockey Canada again. This time, Lotz was one of 13 goaltenders invited to attend Canada’s U-20 Program of Excellence goaltending camp on June 13-16 in Calgary. Presumably, this is the group Canada is looking at for the 2014 World Junior Hockey Championships. Lotz was one of the six 1995-born goalies invited, the rest are 1994-born.
