SNOHOMISH — A 27-year-old Vancouver, Wash., man died Friday afternoon in a parachuting accident near Snohomish.
Crews were called about 4:15 p.m. to the 11900 block of 92nd Street SE, east of town, Snohomish Fire Chief Ron Simmons said. They initially requested a medical helicopter, which later was canceled.
The man was an experienced parachutist with Skydive Snohomish, based at Harvey Field, said Elaine Harvey, a spokeswoman for the group. He had completed more than 400 jumps.
Investigators believe the man had deployed his chute before he hit the ground, Snohomish County sheriff’s spokeswoman Shari Ireton said.
“For some reason, he just came in too fast and hit the ground and aid arrived and he was pronounced dead at the scene,” she said.
The man was hurt while “executing a highly advanced maneuver,” Harvey said.
The Snohomish County Medical Examiner’s Office was expected to take custody of the man’s body, Ireton said. His name was not released Friday.
The accident location was about two miles from Harvey Field.
