TACOMA — The Weyerhaeuser family is giving $1 million to the Museum of Glass in Tacoma to establish an endowment.
The News Tribune reported that the gift was announced Friday night at a memorial for George Weyerhaeuser Jr., the family scion and Tacoma civic leader who died of a heart attack in April. Weyerhaeuser helped found the museum, which opened in 2002, and he was concerned about its long-term financial security.
The Weyerhaeuser family started the Federal Way-based timber products company of the same name. In addition to the $1 million gift, the family is also offering to match up to $500,000 in donations made by others.
