Motorcyclist dies after crash in Mill Creek
It was the second fatal motorcycle crash in Snohomish County that day.
The crash was reported about 8:20 p.m. in the 2300 block of 132nd Street SE, just east of Highway 527, Mill Creek police officer Ian Durkee said.
Witnesses told police the Suzuki motorcycle was speeding before the crash.
They described seeing "a big cloud of dust" as the motorcycle struck the sedan's passenger-side front panel, Durkee said.
Investigators believe the motorcycle crossed the center line. The impact threw the man into a nearby wooded area north of the road, Durkee said. He died at the scene.
The man was identified Tuesday as James V. Beaudry, 27, of Mill Creek.
Two people in the sedan were not injured.
A Mill Creek collision detective is working the case alongside the Snohomish County sheriff's Collision Investigation Unit, Durkee said. Preliminary calculations showed the motorcycle was going about 80 mph around the time of the crash. The speed limit there is 45 mph.
The roadway nearby was closed until early Tuesday morning, Durkee said. Washington State Patrol troopers and state transportation crews assisted with traffic control.
The crash was the second fatal motorcycle collision in Snohomish County that day. A young Bellingham woman died Monday morning after crashing her bike into another vehicle on I-5 in the Silvana area.
She was identified by troopers as Sheila F. Sherman, 24.
Durkee asked people to keep safety in mind as the weather gets nicer.
"It's even more important to drive and ride safely," he said.
