Driver who hit deputy may have had medical problem

EVERETT -- Detectives believe a 33-year-old Everett man may have been suffering a medical problem when he drove into a Snohomish County sheriff's motorcycle deputy on Thursday morning in south Everett.
Initial medical tests showed the man's blood sugar was low enough to cause a possible loss of consciousness, according to court papers.
Police allege the man was driving the wrong direction on Evergreen Way about 10:30 a.m. when his Lexus ES 300 struck the deputy on the motorcycle just north of 112th Street SW.
The deputy, 48, was taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.
The deputy, who's been with the sheriff's office for 10 years, was listed Friday in stable condition, Everett police spokesman Aaron Snell said.
The deputy suffered possible broken bones, according to a search warrant filed Thursday.
The Everett man was taken to a local hospital after the crash and later was released. No arrests have been made, Snell said Friday.
"At this point in the investigation, we haven't ruled anything out," he said.
Everett collision detectives are investigating the crash as a potential case of vehicular assault, court papers show.
The man's license already had been suspended due to another collision. Details on that crash weren't immediately available Friday. The man has no known felony history.
On Thursday, detectives obtained a judge's permission to collect a blood sample from the man.
The sample will be submitted for forensic testing by the state crime lab.
