STEVENSON — A day-long search of the Gifford Pinchot National Forest turned up no sign of a Vancouver, Wash., hiker who has been missing since last weekend.
Nineteen-year-old Maureen Kelly was last seen on June 9 when she walked away from the Canyon Creek Campground on a spiritual quest. She left naked, carrying only a knife and a fanny pack.
Kelly was reported overdue from the hike early Monday.
Saturday’s search operation included 75 volunteers covering four square miles of difficult terrain. Skamania County Undersheriff Dave Cox says they found no trace of the young woman, and officials suspended search efforts at 6 p.m.
Deputies will continue to patrol the area and Cox urged anyone with information about Kelly to call the sheriff’s office.
One rescuer suffered an ankle injury Saturday and a search dog split a paw.
