SPOKANE — Just before Halloween in 2009 vandals beheaded a statue of Mary at the Our Lady of Lourdes Grotto at Mount St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Spokane.
The beheaded statue was stored away until recently when a Spokane couple cleaning out a rental property found the head and notified the church.
The pastor, Rev. Casimir Puskorius, told KHQ that the head was reattached Saturday and the statue will be put back in the grotto where it has stood watch since 1920. The half-ton marble statue was sculpted in France.
