Thousands of items at Lynnwood Rotary Club sale
Last year it was a 10-foot sailboat.
This year, it's a kimchi refrigerator. Yup, a special refrigerator for Korea's national dish.
The rummage sale, scheduled from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, has thousands of other items to offer.
"We do, of course, have a lot of wonderful furniture -- old and new," said Gunvor Tveidt a Lynnwood Rotary Club member. "We have antique furniture. Collectibles. We have lots of Christmas decorations."
There are also lots of clothes, an old wrought-iron table and chairs, household items, children's toys, including old and new dolls, electronics and linens.
"We've had sinks, lights, birdcages and pet carriers," said Debbie Bodal, the Rotary Club's president-elect.
This marks the fourth year the group has organized the rummage sale. Last year, nearly $10,000 was raised, said Jeffrey Goodwin, a Rotary Club member.
Combined with other efforts, Rotary gave away $30,000 to 20 community and nonprofits groups last year. These included scholarships for the Edmonds School District and the Edmonds Community College Foundation, the Lynnwood Food Bank and the Boys & Girls Clubs of Snohomish County.
This year, Rotary members worked to get even more items for the rummage sale than in the past. "We're hoping that translates to greater revenue so we can put that money back into the community," Goodwin said.
There's also satisfaction in seeing that some of the items go to people in need at a great price, he said.
Anyone who wants to get in on the best bargain hunting better be prepared to get there early.
"Last year, we had a line around the school, probably 250 people starting the line as early as 6 a.m.," Goodwin said. "Come early and get a cup of coffee."
