Macklemore, deadmau5 put on surprise Everett show

Each year Microsoft holds an intern Signature Event. Two years ago it was a party with Dave Matthews at the zoo. Last year it was The Alabama Shakes at Gas Works Park. This year Microsoft treated its interns to an evening they will not soon forget.

On Thursday night, 1,600 Microsoft interns packed into 41 buses and were brought to the Future of Flight Aviation Center right next to Everett’s Boeing plant. When they got there, there was a Boeing 787 was parked in the middle of the party, the Seattle Duck rides were there to drive people around the facility, and there was amazing food and wine waiting for them.

The biggest surprise of the evening came in a pair of performances by Seattle hiphop duo Macklemore &Ryan Lewis and world famous electronic artist deadmau5. These artists are two of the hottest acts in their respective genres. Any music festival would be happy to have Macklemore &Ryan Lewis or deadmau5 at the top of their lineup and last night they played Everett.

Macklemore performed his hit song “Thrift Shop” in a bright yellow flight jacket. Prior to his performance, deadmau5 spent some time touring the Boeing plant tweeting “Building airplanes in the Boeing Factory!!! Epic tour was epic!” and he posted several photos of the factory as well as one of him with Macklemore with a caption that read “Macklemau5?”

The music went till around 10:30 p.m. and drew some noise complaints from citizens citywide.

When the party was over each intern received a brand new Microsoft Surface tablet. Pretty fabulous way to thank your interns. Well played, Microsoft. Where do I sign up?

Here is a video of Macklemore performing “Thrift Shop” at the event.
