Seems Like Yesterday

50 years ago (1963)
The Rev. S.K. Johnson and Carlos Lenis checked the packs of Leota Larson and Joe Ridderbrusch as they and five other young people from South Everett Presbyterian Mission set out on a five-day trail hike in the Olympic Peninsula. Others on the trek were Joy Woll, Joan Reck, Randy Austin, Larry Hunter and adult leader Marillen MacChesney.

Children were enjoying several summer camps in the county including Camp Fire's Camp Killoqua on Crabapple Lake, Boy Scouts' Camp Sevenich east of Lake Stevens, the county's Camp Silverton on the Mountain Loop Highway and the Vounteers of America Camp near Sultan.

25 years ago (1988)
Shane Durham, left-handed pitcher for the Everett Giants, finally had his first professional appearance after an injury-plagued summer. He held Eugene to three hits and one run in six innings as the Giants beat the Emeralds 7-2 before 2,368 fans. Durham struck out seven and walked none.

Football players in Snohomish County were wanted for the Blue Knights, a semi-professional football team. There was no cost to play, all equipment provided and it was a great preparation for college without loss of eligibility for former high school players 18 and older.
