VANCOUVER, B.C. — The Everett AquaSox’s return to winning ways was short-lived.
Everett found itself on the wrong side of the scoreline yet again Wednesday night as the Sox fell 10-1 to the Vancouver Canadians.
The Sox just ended a six-game losing streak Tuesday, beat Vancouver 5-3 for their first victory since the All-Star break. But Everett proved incapable of building on that win as the Sox were blown out in soggy conditions.
Six different Vancouver batters had multiple hits as the Canadians (9-11 second half, 31-27 overall) pounded out 15 as a team. Michael Reeves and L.B. Dantzler both slugged home runs, while Monroe High School graduate Ian Parmley went 2-for-3 and scored three runs.
Meanwhile, three Vancouver pitchers combined on a three-hitter. Starter Tom Robson earned the win with five solid innings.
Chantz Mack doubled to lead Everett (9-11, 32-26). Starter Nate Koneski took the loss, allowing six runs — four earned — over three innings.
Everett jumped out to an early lead when the Sox grabbed a run in the top of the first, Kyle Petty’s two-out RBI single to center staking Everett to a 1-0 lead.
But Vancouver responded in the bottom of the first, with RBI singles by Justin Atkinson and Melvin Garcia wrapped around a run-scoring groundout by Reeves, giving the Canadians a 3-1 advantage. Further damage was avoided when center fielder James Zamarripa threw Atkinson out at the plate to end the inning.
Vancouver then gradually added to its lead to make it rout. The Canadians tacked on two in the second, Frank scoring from second on an error and Andy Fermin smacking an RBI double to right. Reeves added one more in the third with a solo homer to right, then Dantzler followed suit in the sixth by blasting his own homer to right, a two-run shot. Finally in the seventh, Shaun Valeriote’s two-run single provided the final runs.
