AquaSox top Canadians 4-3 in extra innings
The Sox scratched out a run in the top of the 12th inning without the benefit of a hit, and Everett completed its toughest road trip of the season by defeating the Vancouver Canadians 4-3 Thursday afternoon.
Everett outhit Vancouver 13-5 and left 18 men on base during the 12-inning marathon. But it wasn't until Bryan Brito scored the go-ahead run in the 12th that the Sox finally saw the Canadians off.
Brito led off the 12th with a walk, then Jack Reinheimer laid down a sacrifice bunt. The Canadians tried to get Brito at second, but Brito beat the throw. One out later Justin Seager hit a double-play ball to short that could have ended the inning. However, second baseman David Harris' throw to first was wide and the ball got away from first baseman Justin Atkinson. Brito motored around from second and slid home just ahead of the tag to give the Sox the lead.
Brito, Ian Miller and Chantz Mack each had three hits for Everett (10-11 second half, 33-26 overall) to close out the long road trip. The Sox won just two of the eight games of the trip. Tyler Wright earned the win with two scoreless innings of relief. Min-Sih Chen picked up the save with a perfect 12th inning.
Everett starting pitcher Steven Ewing had an impressive performance, allowing just two hits and one walk in six innings while striking out five. But he gave up two runs -- one earned -- and wound up with a no decision.
Monroe High School graduate Ian Parmley scored two of the three runs for Vancouver (9-12, 31-28).
Everett played from ahead throughout. The Sox scored one in the top of the first on Mack's RBI single, with the Canadians responding in the bottom half when Parmley scored on a wild pitch. Everett went ahead 3-1 on Seager's RBI double in the third and Brito's run-scoring single in the sixth, but again Vancouver responded as Parmley scored on another wild pitch in the sixth and Melvin Garcia hit an RBI double in the seventh, making it 3-3.
