Former Lynnwood Councilwoman Ruth Ross apparently has taken the first step toward a return to the council with a lead in returns from the Aug. 6 primary.
Results from the primary updated Friday showed Ross leading a four-way primary for an open council seat with 32.55 percent of the vote compared to 28.38 percent for her probable November opponent, Douglas Lovitt, a real estate broker; 19.93 percent for Lynnwood Planning Commissioner Maria Ambalada; and 17.59 percent for Boeing quality specialist David Mayers.
Ross and Lovitt apparently will run in November for the position that Councilwoman Kerri Lonergren-Dreke is giving up,
Ross held the position before she lost in 2009 to Lonergren-Dreke by a 63.70 percent to 35.54 percent margin.
Snohomish County elections officials were scheduled to release updated results Monday afternoon, with final certification of results scheduled for Tuesday.
