Prep football practices start Wednesday

Football is almost back.

Thank God.

In 24 hours every prep football team in the state of Washington kicks off its 2013 season — 16 hours for Mount Vernon (more on that later) — with the first practice of the fall. And I couldn’t be more excited … well fellow Herald writer David Krueger might be a little more excited.

Every year we take on more and more on the first day of practice and this year is no different. My day begins at midnight as the Mount Vernon football team kicks off its season at 12:01 a.m. — the earliest any team can start — as the Bulldogs try to turn things around after tough turn in their first year back in Wesco last year. I’ll be there and I’ll tweet the mayhem.

Then in a more decent hour we’ll start visiting camps at 8 a.m. at Kamiak and Snohomish. The Knights have high hopes with plenty of all-confernce returners, including running back Austin Hall, and Snohomish starts a new era under coach Kai Smalley.

Here’s a complete look of the camps we’ll be at and the reporters who will be at them. Follow the reporters for photos and news from the camps. Also we’ll have reports from all the camps throughout the day at www.heraldnet.com/prepzone.
