The Puget Sound Bird Fest, an annual celebration of birds and nature in Edmonds, is Sept. 6 to 8.

Through the weekend, there will be field trips, guided walks, speakers, exhibits and activities for kids.
The opening reception on Sept. 6 features a keynote speech by Thor Hanson, the author of “Feathers: The Evolution of a Natural Miracle.”
Presentations include raptor ecology, photography, birding basics, best nest boxes and feeders, birding with a smartphone or tablet, birding for kids and more.
Interpretive programs will be offered at Edmonds Marsh on Sept. 7 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. You can also try out various binoculars and spotting scopes at the marsh from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. that day.
