The Seahawks are done with their week of practice and getting ready to head to Green Bay.
Among those not expected to play is rookie DT Jordan Hill, who injured his bicep in practice Tuesday.
“He strained his bicep in practice,” Carroll said. “We’re just going day-to-day, week-to-week if it takes that long. We’ll see how it goes. He won’t play in this game.”
On the report out of Pennsylvania last night of a 3-6 week recovery time, Carroll said, “That’s not accurate. I don’t know who said that.”
Guard James Carpenter (foot) is closer to getting back, but won’t play Friday.
“He’s getting really close to doing some stuff,” Carroll said. “We’re hoping he’ll practice next week, keeping our fingers crossed he can play next week.”
Also out are DT Jesse Williams (knee), WR Sidney Rice (knee) and TE Zach Miller (foot).
“We’re being cautious with all our guys,” Carroll said. “We’re looking after these guys. If we have the opportunity to take an extra day, an extra week, we’re doing it. So we’re pointing to the opener with Zach and Sidney and all those guys who have not had the chance to get active and play in the games. That’s somewhat of a conservative approach, but we think that’s the way to do it so we’re sticking with it.”
With Williams and Hill out, Tony McDaniel will get the start and have a chance to take a lead in the battle for an open starting job. McDaniel was out a couple of weeks with a groin injury but returned to practice this week.
“This is a great opportunity for Tony,” Carroll said. “He’s starting… We’re counting on him to do some good things. He’s looked very good in practice.”
Fullback Michael Robinson won’t play either, as he’s been out all week with illness.
“Mike Rob is getting better, but he’s still sick and he has not be able to come to the facility yet,” Carroll said. “He’s definitely under the weather, and we’ll look all the way to next week to see if we can get him back out there. I don’t know what the prognosis is for him, but he is not feeling well at all.
On whether or not DE Cliff Avril, who returned to practice late last week will play, Carroll said, “That’s still up in the air.”
Carroll said DE Bruce Irvin (groin) is also a question mark: “Game-time. We’ll see what the trainers say about him. He got some good work yesterday for the first time in a long time.”
Asked if receiver turned fullback Phil Bates will see more time at his new position, Carroll said, “There’s a good chance.”
And finally, Pete Carroll was asked about the ESPN article on the Seahawks’ “Kinder, gentler philosophy” and it seems Carroll didn’t love the article.
“That’s not a big part of our game,” he said. “The article dramatized stuff. We have a handful of guys who are involved with that stuff. I don’t know what the guys are doing in the offseason, there’s lot of guys around professional sports who do yoga and all that. We don’t have a big program of that here. It kind of came off like we did.”
