EVERETT — They’re back.
The Everett Silvertips begin their preparations for the 2014-15 Western Hockey League season this week with the opening of training camp.
Everett’s veterans, as well as the prospects on the Tips’ 50-player protected list, check in Wednesday afternoon, with invited players checking in Thursday morning. Approximately 80 players will be grouped into four teams. The first on-ice session of training camp is at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, and camp concludes Sunday afternoon with the annual Green vs. Grey intrasquad game.
All sessions are at Comcast Arena and are open to the public free of charge.
Everett is coming off its best season since 2009-10. Last season Tips finished 39-23-7-3 for 88 points, which tied Everett with Seattle for second place in the U.S. Division, and by finishing fourth in the Western Conference the Tips fulfilled their guarantee to season-ticket holders of finishing no worse than sixth in the conference. Everett then was eliminated by Seattle in the first round of the playoffs.
The Tips again have a guarantee issued to season ticket holders, this time of finishing no worse than fourth in the conference. If the Tips don’t achieve that goal, those who renewed early will receive a $100 credit toward their season tickets in 2015-16.
Everett’s first preseason games are at the Holiday Inn Preseason Classic on Aug. 29-31 at Comcast Arena. The Tips’ open the regular season Sept. 20 at Seattle.
