Name: Davek Tablet Note Bag.
What it is: A tough and very attractive compact bag for your iPad, tablet, e-reader, netbook or similar device. This is from Davek, which started business making uber-rugged umbrellas.
Now Davek does it with bags too. About 12-by-10-by-3 inches, it comes in blue, green and black.
The good: I took this bag on a two-week European tour. In it I kept my iPad, passport, wallet, car keys, sunglasses case, room keys, all the little bits and pieces of travel.
I don’t want to mislead anyone into thinking it’s roomy; it’s not really meant to be, but it holds plenty, and it holds it securely.
The main compartment seems to have been built for the iPad, which even with its own case slides in perfectly. I prefer to travel light, but I also use my iPad while on the run on a trip, so I like to carry it with me.
And I’m long over feeling self-conscious about a man purse. This held everything I could need while touring, and it was sleek enough to tuck close to my body with the shoulder strap and never have to worry about pickpockets or bag snatchers.
Among the zippered pockets is a holy-of-holies pocket deep inside where I kept my passport. Above all, the material is tough, the buckle is polished aluminum, and the bag looks far more stylish than I deserve.
The bad: As I said, it’s more sleek than roomy, so don’t try to load too much, thus creating unequal pressure on your digital device and perhaps cracking the screen. Treat it properly and this will cradle your electronics like a new mother.
Cost: $135.
