EVERETT — A 36-year-old Everett man was being held Monday for investigation of second-degree assault after an early-morning shooting outside an Everett bar the day before.
Marco A. Mayorquin got into an argument with people about 2 a.m. Sunday in front of Tailgator, a sports bar at 1805 Hewitt Avenue, according to the arrest report.
Mayorquin reportedly pulled a Smith &Wesson handgun and fired multiple shots.
A man in his 20s who was not involved in the argument was struck and suffered two gunshot wounds. The man was taken to a hospital for medical treatment. He is expected to survive.
After the shooting, Mayorquin began walking northbound, witnesses told police. He was arrested less than a minute later at the corner of California Street and Rockefeller Avenue.
Police located seven shell casings at two different spots at the scene, records show.
Mayorquin also reportedly admitted to the shooting.
The incident is being investigated as a potential case of second-degree assault because detectives don’t believe Mayorquin intended to shoot the victim, Everett police spokesman Aaron Snell said Monday.
An Everett District Court judge on Monday set bail at $10,000.
Mayorquin has limited criminal history, lawyers said in court Monday.
Court records show he was charged in 2008 with possessing a stolen firearm in Pierce County. The case later was dismissed because the officer who made the arrest was deployed to Iraq and unable to serve as a witness for the prosecution.
Mayorquin also spent time in King County Jail in 2008 in connection with a gang-related assault in a park, court records show.
In previous cases, he has had seven prior warrants issued for his arrest, prosecutors said.
