WHAT: Hamamelis intermedia ‘Primavera,’ better known as witch hazel, lends so much to the winter garden by virtue of its late winter flowers.
Both its color and fragrance are superb, whether outside in the landscape or indoors as part of a bouquet.
This colorful display is followed by attractive foliage in the summer, which turns yellow-orange in the fall before it loses its leaves.
SUN OR SHADE: Witch hazel exhibits its best coloration in full sun, but will tolerate part shade.
SIZE: At a mature height of 15 feet and width of 12 feet it can be grown as either a small tree or large shrub.
SEE IT: At the Evergreen Arboretum &Gardens, 145 Alverson Blvd., Everett; 425-257-8597
