Two arrested in kidnapping of woman in Tulalip

EVERETT — Sheriff’s deputies arrested two people for investigation of kidnapping Thursday after a woman reported that she was forced into a car and threatened with death.

The suspects are a Marysville man, 44, and a Tulalip woman, 32.

A witness called 911 around 7:30 p.m. Thursday after seeing a woman being pushed into a gray SUV as she screamed, “Please no! Stop,” according to a police report.

The witness said the woman’s car had been blocked by the SUV in the 6400 block of 33rd Avenue NE on the Tulalip Indian Reservation. One of the occupants of the SUV then got into the woman’s car and both vehicles drove away.

The bystander got the license plate number for the SUV. Snohomish County sheriff’s deputies traced the number to a Tulalip address. People at the home said one of the suspects had lived there, but had moved into a Marysville home with her boyfriend.

Deputies then went to that home in the 8100 block of 47th Avenue NE.

When they arrived, the Tulalip woman got out of one of the cars in the driveway. The Marysville man also was detained.

A deputy wrote in the police report that the man was “incredibly intoxicated,” denied knowing anything was amiss and insisted he was “only here to please these two women.”

The victim gave a much different account.

She said she had been visiting a friend’s house when she was stopped and forced into the SUV. In the process, the SUV door was slammed onto her hand.

She later was moved into her own car and driven around. The suspects allegedly told her “they were going to kill her, cut off her head and bury her body on the beach,” she told deputies.

The pair blamed her for the heroin overdose death of an acquaintance, the police report said.

Sheriff’s office spokeswoman Shari Ireton credited the witness who reported the abduction with providing important details.

“Getting the full vehicle license saved a lot of search time,” she said.

The suspects were booked into the Snohomish County Jail early Friday morning for investigation of kidnapping and stealing a car.
