EVERETT — Two days before Leo Scott allegedly stabbed a man to death in Lynnwood, he reportedly threatened to knife another man because that guy threw a phone charger on the ground.
The man told Snohomish County sheriff’s detectives he was so afraid of Scott that he left home for the night.
Scott now is accused of fatally stabbing Windell Vaughn in the chest Aug. 8 during an argument. It’s unclear what the men were fighting over.
Witnesses reported hearing the argument. At one point, Vaughn allegedly yelled, “Do it! Go ahead and stab me!”
People in the house heard a struggle and found Scott holding a knife. The blade was embedded in the Vaughn’s chest. One man at the home struggled to wrestle the knife out of Scott’s hand. Vaughn collapsed to the floor.
He died at the scene. The medical examiner determined that the knife pierced Vaughn’s lungs and heart. He was 32.
Snohomish County deputy prosecutor Bob Langbehn on Friday charged Scott with second-degree murder with a deadly weapon. Scott remains jailed on $1 million bail. He is expected to be arraigned Tuesday in Snohomish County Superior Court.
He has prior felony convictions for drugs and unlawful gun possession. He has more than a dozen misdemeanor convictions; the most recent from March.
Witnesses told police that after Scott stabbed Vaughn he ran out of the house, saying, “Don’t tell on me. It wasn’t me.” He reportedly returned to the home a short time later, trying to get the knife back, Langbehn wrote. Witnesses forced him out of the house.
Police spotted Scott riding a bicycle about 20 blocks from the homicide scene. The convicted felon was arrested after a brief struggle with officers.
He had what appeared to be blood on his shoes and jacket.
