County roads

Work well done, if redundant

Earlier this year, road crews were busy applying paint to our roads, making bright centerlines and fog lines. I took a close look at their work and think it is very good. Almost perfect centering, and the fog lines are neat and parallel, right on the edges. They are really good at what they do and I appreciate these improvements for every day driving but especially at night and in the winter when visibility is poor. Really helps make us safer.
Recently, I noticed quite a few resurfacing projects on our rural roads. In some cases chip seal and in others asphalt was applied. Again, these folks really know what they are doing. The work is really well done and the result is nice, smooth roads. Hats off to these workers for their efforts.
One thing caught my eye though. The resurfacing covered up a lot of the paint that had been applied earlier, making it necessary to repaint that. Seems like a phone call could save a whole lot of paint, labor hours and taxpayer money.
Hi, you guys do road resurfacing? Yes, we do.
Well, we do painting of centerlines and fog lines and I just thought we could try it different next time. Maybe you could tell us which roads you're gonna resurface and we could hold off on painting stripes until after you're done. Well, I guess we could try it that way.
Good, let us know your plans and we'll only paint once, instead of twice, OK? OK. Bye.
Maybe I'm the only one who notices these things. I'm just an old retired, fixed income, broke taxpayer whose intent is to make a helpful suggestion to whoever, if anybody, is in charge of this stuff. Thanks,
Ken Strain
