EVERETT — A unique celebration is coming to shores of Silver Lake on Saturday.
The public is invited to celebrate their loved ones and neighbors who are in recovery for substance abuse and learn more about how prevention and treatment can work to change lives.
There will be live music, free food and games. Snohomish County Executive John Lovick is expected to speak, along with Superior Court Judge Bruce Weiss, who presides over the county’s juvenile drug court. People in recovery also are expected to share their stories with the community.
Also on hand will be recovery specialists who can talk about resources in the community for drug and alcohol treatment and mental health care.
Milam Lakeside Recovery will provide substance abuse screening. Staff with the Snohomish Health District also will provide testing for HIV and Hepatitis C.
The event, “Recovery Reigns,” is one of hundreds planned across the country as part of the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration’s “Recovery Month.”
The goal, officials say, is to spread the message that people can and do overcome addictions. Organizers also hope the event will help remove the stigma sometimes associated with recovery.
Saturday’s event is free and will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Camp Patterson on Silver Lake, 11405 Silver Lake Rd., Everett. For more information, contact Lyn Lauzon at llauzon@everettsd.org.
