Acts to remember from an outstanding Bumbershoot

If Bumbershoot 2013 taught me anything, it’s that the talent pool in the Seattle music community has turned into a massive, never ending ocean that just seems to keep getting better. Because of that, I think this was one of the best Bumbershoots in years.

There were some very popular artists on the lineup this year that came from all over to perform, but the core of the lineup was most certainly its local flavor. Heart headlined the first night of the festival and Death Cab For Cutie headlined the second night, both performing in front of a packed house at KeyArena.

Several other Seattle artists made their mark on Bumbershoot this year. Allen Stone, Sol, The Grizzled Mighty, The Maldives, Ivan and Alyosha and more all played in front of packed crowds. Hot Bodies In Motion played at 11:45 a.m. on the last day of Bumbershoot. That isn’t an ideal slot for a band at a music festival, but there was still a monster crowd there to dance with them at the Starbucks stage.

The out-of-town acts were pretty darn good too. Compton rapper Kendrick Lamar rocked KeyArena in front of thousands and might have been my favorite performance of the weekend.

The scene at the TuneIn stage while Crystal Castled performed looked like bombs exploding on stage while a massive crowd danced and several times held front-woman Alice Glass up in the air as she ventured out into the audience.

The best stumble-upon of the weekend was easily Lake Street Dive. These guys were not on my radar at all but on my way to the EDM stage at EMP I was stopped in my tracks by this incredible voice and stayed for the rest of the set. They will be back at the Tractor Tavern in November and I can’t recommend it enough.

Well done this year, Bumbershoot. I can’t wait to see what you pull off next year.
