Seems Like Yesterday

50 years ago (1963)

Osborne Lane, the northeast entry to Evergreen Junior High School, got a new sidewalk this week. Safety Commissioner C. Arvid Johnson, Evergreen principal Bob Ludwick and school district paint crew foreman Bill Dailey inspected the new quarter mile of curbing.

Sign-ups for fall classes at Everett Junior College opened today. Leon Reid, a general education major from Fresno, Calif., was one of the returning students registering this morning. He went over his academic schedule with Phyllis Harris, English instructor and faculty adviser.

25 years ago (1988)

Dr. Eric Kiesel, Snohomish County Medical Examiner, was looking to lighten his workload with a proposal that the state require the use of headlights during daylight hours on the state's rural highways. Fatalities had dropped along a 2-mile test zone on U.S. 2 near Snohomish.

For some a vacation or time off might include a bit of golf, fishing or travel. But Bert Spada, one of an army of part-time workers at the Evergreen State Fair, viewed participation as fun and relaxing. Among many other things, he instructed volunteer Derek Moody about parking at the fair's west entrance.
