I have lived on south Camano Island for more than 20 years. In that time, our fire department has changed from a largely volunteer organization to one that requires a full-time emergency response of both career and volunteer firefighters.
This year we have the unique opportunity to elect an Island County Fire Commissioner who can contribute to this level of professionalism: Dr. Paul Williams. His combination of medical and business experience would benefit our community.
More than 80 percent of all emergency calls received by our fire department are medically-related. If elected, Dr. Williams would be the only fire commissioner with a background in emergency medical care.
In addition to being a doctor, he also runs the business side of the clinics where he works. His experience managing budgets is critical during times like now when our fire department is receiving less tax revenue and laying off firefighters.
A candidate with a medical background and business experience would be a welcome addition to our Board of Fire Commissioners. Please join me in voting for Dr. Paul Williams for Fire Commissioner in Position 4.
