Last season the Tips were the lowest-scoring team in the WHL, tallying just 171 goals in 72 games, an average of 2.4 per game. So far in the preseason Everett has scored 26 goals in five games, an average of 5.2 per game. The Tips found the net eight times each of the past two times out. That’s quite the surge.
Now, it’s just the preseason, and one wouldn’t expect the preseason numbers to translate exactly to the regular season. Nevertheless, it is an encouraging sign for a team that hasn’t scored many goals the past three seasons, and it suggests Everett’s goal total will increase this season.
Looking unscientifically at last season’s goal totals throughout the league, about 225 would be about a median total, so let’s use that as a benchmark for an over/under:
