Boy, 12, charged in holdup of bikini barista stand
Police allege that the boy pointed a revolver at a barista at Hillbilly Hotties on Hoyt Avenue, threatened to shoot her, dumped the tip jar into his backpack.
He then pedaled away on a bicycle.
The boy also has been charged with robbery in an Aug. 28 holdup at Pecks Drive Market in south Everett. The boy reportedly borrowed the gun from a 16-year-old boy who's also being investigated for another robbery at the Jimmy John's sandwich shop on Sievers-Duecy Road on July 23.
In that case, the Arlington teenager and another young man wore white surgical masks and one of them pointed the gun at an employee. The 16-year-old has been arrested and booked.
Everett police spokesman Aaron Snell on Tuesday attributed the arrests to "solid policework."
The age of the suspects is unusual for this kind of crime, Snell said.
"It's not something we run into every day," he said. "It's a pretty serious offense whenever anyone takes a weapon with them to a robbery."
Police still are seeking the other young man from the sandwich shop robbery.
Everett police officers who saw surveillance footage from the Pecks Drive Market robbery recognized the 12-year-old boy from previous interactions with him, Snell said.
The boy was arrested on Sept. 6 and booked into Denney Juvenile Justice Center. He has since been charged with two counts of first-degree robbery.
The 16-year-old already has a felony burglary conviction from 2009, court papers show. He and some other boys were accused of breaking into an empty rental house in Arlington.
Every room of the house was vandalized, and someone partially emptied the backyard koi pond and stole 14 fish, according to court papers. The boys sprayed paint all over the house and kicked holes in the walls.
At the time, the boy pleaded guilty. He received a six-month deferral that later was revoked after he failed to make restitution payments.
