Gig Harbor man pleads guilty in nephew's death

TACOMA -- A Gig Harbor man pleaded guilty Tuesday to vehicular homicide and reckless endangerment charges from a March 16 crash that killed his 9-year-old nephew.
The News Tribune reported that Pierce County prosecutors are recommending a prison term of about six years when Jayce Randall, 27, is sentenced Oct. 4 in Tacoma.
Investigators said Randall had been drinking and using marijuana before he left a family barbecue to give his nephew and niece a ride to their grandparents.
Randall lost control and rolled his car off Highway 16 near Purdy. Donovan Best was thrown from the car and died. His 8-year-old sister was buckled in the back seat and not injured. She told troopers they had asked their uncle to slow down.
