The Wesco volleyball coaches have voted to implement a change this season that could affect which teams qualify for the postseason.
In the past, the 4A and 3A levels have been divided up into a north and south division with a league champion being crowned from each division. That system has changed this season as the 4A and 3A levels will each have one large league that includes every team from the north and south.
Rather than north schools playing each other twice and south schools playing each other twice as they have in previous seasons, each 4A team will play the other 4A teams once and each 3A team will play the other 3A teams once during the regular season.
“It feels a lot more intense in some ways because you don’t get to make adjustments when you see (a team) again,” Kamiak head coach Natalie Bowie said.
At the end of the regular season, one league champion will be crowned from each classification and the teams with the best records will qualify for the postseason. At the 4A level the top eight teams qualify and in 3A the top seven teams qualify for the postseason.
In the past, four teams from each division advanced to the postseason. The rule change was put in place to ensure that the teams with the best regular season records advance to the playoffs.
