EVERETT — Two more players are returning to the Everett Silvertips.
The NHL’s Edmonton Oilers announced Sunday they were reassigning forward Reid Petryk and defenseman Ben Betker to Everett. Both had been attending training camp with the Oilers.
Betker, who’s heading into his 19-year-old season, was a sixth-round pick by Edmonton in this year’s NHL draft. He was never a candidate to make the Oilers.
The 20-year-old Petryk, however, was a candidate to earn a professional contract and play in the minors this season. He was a free agent who received an invitation to try out for the Oilers.
Petryk’s return muddies Everett’s overager situation. Everett has four 20-year-olds on the roster, but can only keep three through the season. The other candidates are defenseman Matt Pufahl, who was traded for during the offseason; forward Joshua Winquist, who led the team in scoring last season; and forward Manraj Hayer, who led the league in scoring during the preseason.
The deadline to get down to three overagers isn’t until mid-October.
