Friday links and a Russell Okung update

Pete Carroll did his weekly spot on Kiro radio, and gave some potentially good news on LT Russell Okung, who has been ruled out this week with a toe injury.

“There’s some potential there to get Russell back,” he said. “We’ll see what that means when we know more about it. He won’t make it back immediately, but we have a chance here to get some good news. We have to get through this day before we can really tell you what’s up.

In today’s Herald, I take a look at Seattle’s offense, which is trying to get on track after subpar performances in the first two games. And from the blog yesterday, highlights from a press conference with the always entertaining Richard Sherman.

Jayson Jenks of the Seattle Times writes about Breno Giacomini, who is transitioning from being the guy called for 15-yard penalties to the one baiting people into it.

The folks over at TheMMQB.com have come up with a new formula to rate pass rushers that goes well beyond sack numbers. From a Seahawks perspective, it’s worth noting that while no individual players rank highly, they are one of the top teams at generating a pass rush.

Also at TheMMQB.com, check out this inside look at an injury we hear so much about in sports, the ACL tear. Not a Seahawks story, but a fascinating behind-the-scenes look at the surgery.

Fieldgulls.com takes a look at the risk/reward factor of the read option, breaking down a play that gained Seattle a lot of yardage, but also resulted in a hard hit on Russell Wilson.

If you didn’t catch it yesterday, be sure to listen to this interview with former Seahawks coach and Browns president Mike Holmgren on Sports Radio KJR. Good stuff on the Trent Richardson trade, as well as Holmgren saying he offered his entire 2012 draft in Cleveland to the Colts because he wanted Andrew Luck.

SI.com looks at every game this week, and not surprisingly calls Seahawks-Jaguars one of the less attractive matchups this week.
