Latvia president comments on Seattle light rail

SEATTLE -- The president of Latvia is commenting on the location of a planned Sound Transit light rail line in north Seattle.
President Andri Berzins was in Seattle on Sunday and urged the agency to avoid a track alignment that might displace the Latvian Lutheran Evangelical Church near Northgate.
The church has about 300 members. The building is located near I-5, and Sound Transit is hoping to squeeze its trains between I-5 and the church.
The Seattle Times reported that church leaders say they support light rail, but they don't want to move.
Sound Transit spokesman Bruce Gray said track design is in an early phase and the agency has been working with the church.
