Boys & Girls Club to hold party for teens
The party is being held on Friday. Doors open at 7 p.m. The party goes from 8 to 11 p.m. Parents are encouraged to drop their kids off at the club. It will be chaperoned by Boys & Girls Club staff, volunteers and local police officers. It is free to all youth in grades 6 through 12. Partygoers must bring student identification or other proof of age.
Organizers are hoping at least 200 kids show up.
"Our vision for this event is to become the biggest party on Casino Road while still maintaining a healthy atmosphere," club director Jake Marsh said.
Most of the kids come from Explorer and Voyager middle schools and Mariner High Schools, right around the corner. The club is located a 525 W. Casino Road.
Activities will include an open dance floor, freestyle dance contest, video games and pool tournaments. There were will be raffles for gifts cards to stores, including Zumiez, Foot Locker and Old Navy. Grand prize drawings will give away a Kindle Fire and Beats Audio headphones.
"We as a Boys & Girls Club hope that these block parties become the alternative to some of the activities that the Casino Road area has been stigmatized for and make an impact in these kids' lives by showing them they can still party and do it in a way that is entirely positive," Marsh said.
