FAIRBANKS, Alaska — A lodge inside Denali National park has cleared a hurdle for building a small hydroelectric project to reduce its fuel usage
The Fairbanks Daily News-Miner reports President Barack Obama has signed a bill that includes a land exchange to allow Doyon, Ltd., to build a 50-kilowatt hydroelectric project at its Kantishna Roadhouse.
The roadhouse is 92 miles inside the park.
The bill takes two other actions.
It allows a natural gas pipeline to be buried in the utility corridor of the Parks Highway through the park.
The measure also renames the National Park Service’s Talkeetna Ranger Station for Athabascan climber Walter Harper. He was among the four men to first climb Mount McKinley 100 years ago.
