MONROE — Payton Locknane and Hannah Hicks each had 12 kills as the Jackson Timberwolves closed out Monroe in four sets 25-21, 25-21, 20-25, 25-20.
Mary Epps led the Timberwolves’ defense with 13 digs, while Locknane added 11 and Natalie O’Hare contributed six blocks and eight digs. T-wolves head coach Mindy Staudinger felt her team played better than in recent matches.
“I think we had a better outing on serve-receive,” said Staudinger. “We passed better, kept our hitting percentage up and made some improvements over the last couple of practices which was great to see.”
Monroe’s Mia Adams had 12 kills and 12 digs and libero Chloe Cory had a match-high 31 digs, but Bearcats coach April Munoz admitted that the Jackson offense gave her team some trouble.
“They got a very fast tempo offense, which catches a team offguard,” said Munoz. “They have a good setter who spreads the ball and good hitters. It makes it tough on your defense.”
