STANWOOD — Kyle Jackels ran for two touchdowns and the Stanwood defense provided two additional scores as the Spartans defeated Marysville Getchell 35-7 in a Wesco 3A North opener on Friday night.
“Kyle ran the ball very well,” said Spartans head coach Dave Telford. “He’s just a sophomore, he’s a hard runner that has a knack for finding open spaces. He had some really nice runs tonight.”
Both Spartan defensive touchdown’s came in the second quarter. The first a fumble recovery by linebacker Jett Whichter in the Chargers end zone, the second an interception return from senior defensive back Tyler Givens from 40 yards out to put Stanwood up 21-7 at halftime.
“Defensively we played really well … tackled really well,” Telford said. “I’d say this is the best we’ve played so far this season on all phases of the game.”
