Beware the abominable Jack Z. monster: Just in time for Halloween, several companies are offering “ghost tours” of Seattle’s spookiest sites in Pioneer Square, Pike Place Market and elsewhere.
Strangely, the tours apparently steer clear of what has to be the most horrifying place in Seattle: Safeco Field, where the Mariners close out yet another misbegotten season this weekend.
Beltway brouhaha: The Democratic-controlled Senate voted Friday to stave off the government shutdown threatened for midnight Monday, while keeping intact Obamacare.
House Republicans say they remain committed to dismantling President Barack Obama’s signature health-care bill, but indicated they would be open to a compromise: Obama conceding the election to Mitt Romney.
Arctic Express: A cargo ship recently became only the second vessel of its type to sail through the Northwest Passage, on sea passages newly opened by ice-melting global warming.
The vessel was loaded with carbon emissions-heavy coal, which argues for changing its name from Nordic Orion to the SS Self-Fulfilling Prophecy.
