EVERETT — Police say the man who was fatally shot here on Tuesday evening was 39 and from Seattle.
He died outside a Denny’s restaurant, although witnesses told police the incident may have begun at a nearby motel, Everett police spokesman Aaron Snell said in a press release just before 1 a.m.
“It is unknown if he knew who shot him or the reason he was at the location,” Snell said.
A gun believed used in the shooting was found by a police dog.
Police detained and were questioning several people at a south Everett apartment complex where they located a vehicle believed to have sped from the area shortly after the shooting.

The shooting was reported about 8:30 p.m. in the 8400 block of Evergreen Way, Everett police spokesman Aaron Snell said.
A car was reported speeding from the scene.
Police confirmed the death and before 10 p.m. had tracked down the car. A police dog was being used in the search for the shooting suspect, but without immediate success, Snell said.
Police have information about the suspected shooter but were not releasing those details because of the unfolding nature of the case.
Snell had no information about the slain man. He said detectives hadn’t yet shared with him what they had been told about the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
“Way too early,” Snell said. “We are still putting up crime scene tape.”
