Herald movie critic Robert Horton will present a program on the movie western on Wednesday in Edmonds.
Horton, who has been writing movie reviews for The Herald for more than 30 years, will share some ideas and lead a discussion on how the western reflects the history and culture of the times in “The End of the Trail, How the Western Movie Rode Into the Sunset.”
Among the topics will be the place the Western had for the first 70 years of film-making, and the changes that occurred in the myths and heroes of the western during the tumultuous era of the 1960s and ’70s.
Horton, a graduate of the University of Washington, also reviews movies for KUOW-FM in Seattle, as well as a number of national publications. His books on film include “Billy Wilder: Interviews” and “Frankenstein.” He also co-authors the zombie western graphic novel “Rotten.”
He curates “Magic Lantern,” a series of film discussions at the Frye Art Museum, has taught film at Seattle University and blogs on movies at The Crop Duster, roberthorton.wordpress.com.
The free event is sponsored by the Snohomish County Arts Commission. It takes place at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Cole Gallery, 107 Fifth Ave. S., Edmonds.
