Seattle author and criminologist Ann Rule will sign her latest true-crime mystery, about a murder on Whidbey Island, from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday at China City restaurant in Freeland.
Rule’s book, “Practice to Deceive,” follows the 2003 murder of Russel Douglas, who was found shot between the eyes in his car in a remote area about four miles from Freeland the day after Christmas.
The tangled list of suspects, included an aging beauty queen, her lover and Douglas’ estranged wife. The investigation led Whidbey Island detectives to Florida, Las Vegas, California and back, and took nine years before anyone was brought to trial.
“Practice to Deceive” lists for $26.99. Rule will also autograph up to six copies of her earlier books after the signing is over.
China City is at 1804 Scott Road, Freeland. Call 360-331-8899 for more information. Check Rule’s website, www.authorannrule.com for more signings and information about her other 33 true-crime books.
