Seattle Sounders FC has been fined $5,000 and coach Sigi Schmid was fined an additional $1,000 by the MLS Disciplinary Committee for violation of the league’s mass confrontation policy.
The incident occurred Sunday in the 74th minute of Seattle’s 1-0 loss at Portland. Sounders midfielder Osvaldo Alonso received a straight red card for elbowing Timbers midfielder Will Johnson, and several Sounders surrounded referee Hilario Grajeda to dispute the call.
