It’s over already? We were just getting going

Our long national nightmare is ... put off for a couple of months: Both the U.S. Senate and House, after 16 days of a government shutdown and a flirtation with default, voted to end the shutdown and extend the debt limit.

After all of that, we suggest Americans watch something to take their minds off of the unappealing process of law-making, like sausage-making.

How about some escapist TV? CBS is reminding viewers that it's not too late to catch up with "Hostages," which follows a rogue FBI agent threatening to kill the family of the president's doctor if she doesn't kill the president.

On second thought, I think we've had our fill of drawn-out Washington, D.C.-based hostage dramas for a while.

Future looks bright, even if he isn't: Monroe police tracked down a suspect in a residential burglary after some compelling clues were left behind at the crime scene, including a business card with the man's name on it. "It's clear he is not a criminal mastermind," said a sheriff's office spokeswoman.

And people wonder where we're going to find candidates with keen minds and helpful attitudes to run for Congress.
