Meadowdale lacrosse hires former Snohomish standout Nathan Wirtz as coach

LYNNWOOD, Wash. – Meadowdale’s high school lacrosse club has hired former Snohomish All-Conference midfielder Nathan Wirtz as its boys head coach.

Wirtz, who played collegiately for the University of Idaho’s club team before embarking on a firefighting career with Lake Stevens Fire, takes over a Meadowdale program that finished 6-9-0 in 2013.

“Meadowdale lacrosse has great potential,” Wirtz said. “Our guys have some good experience and have done some tremendous things. I’m really excited for the spring season and can’t wait to get going.”

A multi-school club, 22 student-athletes from Meadowdale, Edmonds-Woodway, King’s, Mountlake Terrace and Lynnwood High Schools along with Providence Classical Christian made up the Meadowdale roster in 2013.

Among the 22-year-old Wirtz’s tasks will be to install a midfield alley-dodging offense similar to attack schemes found at NCAA Div. I powerhouses Johns Hopkins and Syracuse.

“You’ll see our attackmen doing a lot of off-ball movement,” Wirtz said. “We’ll take advantage of the speed and talent at the midfield position.”

Among the midfielders expected to contribute is Meadowdale senior Jordan Tindall. A 2013 captain, Tindall led his squad with 45 points (25g, 20a) playing in all 15 games.

As a high school player, Wirtz captained the combined Snohomish, Glacier Peak high school squad as a 2010 senior finishing third in team scoring with 48 points (28g, 20a). His performance helped guide the team to the Division II quarterfinals of the 2010 boys state tournament.

Wirtz previously coached summer lacrosse programs in Snohomish and Woodinville.
