STANWOOD — There was an apparent home-court advantage for the Stanwood Spartans in Wednesday’s Wesco 3A North Tournament.
Stanwood had two doubles teams playing in the league championship match and another win the singles’ bracket. With yet a fourth finishing third in singles.
Brady Garcea and Bristan Kelley defeated teammates Garrett Goshorn and Henry Jennings 6-4, 3-6, 6-4 in the league championship game. In the singles tournament, senior Jonathan Spores took first with a 6-0, 6-3 win over Everett’s Ulises Acaves.
Stanwood’s Michael Wolf, a freshman, won the third/fourth place match against Casiano Atienza (Oak Harbor) due to his victory over Atienza in a previous match in the tournament. Harrison Miller, also of Oak Harbor, was the victor in the fifth-place match for the same reason. He previously defeated Everett’s Malcolm Fox 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 in the opening round of the tournament.
