Sample from new, old breweries in Snohomish
You'll also get a chance to try brews from a wide variety of breweries, from new faces to well-established beermakers.
Mount Pilchuck Brewery was licensed just two months ago. Mac N' Jack, on the other hand, will celebrate its 20th anniversary in November. Both will serve beer at the Snohomish Brewfest on Friday and Saturday.
The event, which is a fundraiser for the Snohomish Senior Center, is in its third year.
Organizers expect about 1,500 people over three sessions. Each year, the event has seen more visitors, so much so that they've outgrown their space and will be at the Snohomish Events Center this year.
Jesse Podoll, co-owner of Mount Pilchuck Brewery, is excited for his brewery's first event. They're still small, using a two-barrel system. They'll serve their brown ale, what he describes as an easy-going beer. They have also created an imperial pumpkin ale, which will be available only at the brewfest.
George Barnecut, Mac & Jack Brewery's area sales manager, says serving beer at events like Brewfest helps them keep relevant. It helps them get their name out there and let new people taste their beers. Mac & Jack is donating their beer to the festival.
Barnecut is from Snohomish and, as an employee at a big brewery, thinks it's important "to take care of people in need. It's good will and good business," he said.
Mac & Jack will serve its African Amber and a Cascadian dark ale. That beer is a winter beer, a black IPA that he describes as having a bit of a porter characteristic to it.
The brewfest is offering three sessions, one on Friday and two on Saturday. Each session will include live music and a sausage dinner. The sausages are being provided by Kelso Kustom Meats of Snohomish. There will also be snacks available for purchase.
