JBLM howitzer unit deactivated in Army downsizing

JOINT BASE LEWIS-McCHORD -- A howitzer unit that fought in World War II and deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan has been deactivated at Joint Base Lewis-McChord as part of the Army's downsizing.
The colors for the 1st Battalion, 377th Field Artillery Regiment were cased Wednesday in a flag ceremony.
The News Tribune reported that the 350 soldiers will be reassigned to other units.
Three howitzer units remain at JBLM, one each with three Stryker brigades.
